EREA Student Leaders' Conference

Over 50 Student Leaders from across Australian and New Zealand EREA, Associate and Partner schools gathered at Amberley Retreat Centre, Melbourne, for the annual Schools Leaders’ Conference.

The Conference was hosted by Southern Region schools and facilitated by the EREA Identityand Liberating Education Team. Some of the highlights were:

  • The opportunity to build relationships and share stories about the richness and diversity of the schools in the network
  • A walking tour through Melbourne’s parks and along the Yarra (Birrarung) River
  • Participating in prayer, reflection and mediative experiences, including walking the Labyrinth at the Retreat Centre
  • Sharing stories about our journey into leadership, the challenges faced and the gifts that each of us offer to our communities
  • Developing a personal Charter for Leadership that sets out our vision for the year, which will be shared with the members of our school community when we return
  • Identifying the ways in which the Touchstones are brought to life in individual communities and what they are calling each community to engage with
  • Reflecting on the story of Jesus and how this informs and challenges us as leaders
  • Exploring what it means to be part of a team, the gifts others bring and how this enhances each person’s ability to lead
  • Creating an ED (TED) Talk Video that spoke about everyday leadership and what it means to be a leader today
  • Breaking open Laudato Si and reflecting on our own place in the world and Pope Francis’ call to respond to the challenges facing us
  • Networking, socialising and collaborating while sharing insights and building community
  • Making a commitment to supporting and continuing to connect with each other throughout the year
