St James 150th Anniversary Origin Series Opener Event

Despite the cold and rain last night, it was a great evening with many Jimmies old boys and Rugby greats coming out to see the first Origin match on the big screen in the school hall which itself echos many sporting achievements throughout the ages.

We cannot praise the efforts of former Jimmies teacher Andrew Ebrington enough, he coordinated the event and it was executed beautifully. His homage to the old boys Rugby players when he named the team of the century was special, he used no notes when he revered their game history, he just spoke candidly as if he knew every single one of them. It was beautiful. All this from someone who no longer works at Jimmies but did it just because he wanted to.

The Confraternity Rugby League boys were fantastic at the Fundraiser BBQ, they didn’t miss a beat (or a burger) and did a great job. Many customers came back for seconds.

Thank you Marty, Scott, Greg , Bruce, Alex, Roslyn, Margy, Naomi (& her hubby Tony) who all worked hard to support the event and of course the ever-giving past student Peter McWhirter who donated to the school his old St James Premiership Jersey which he had framed. Peter also purchased a couple of hundred dollars worth of “doubles” tickets, won it, then promptly donated the win ($500) back to the school for the Confraternity Fundraiser, what a man!

Thank you again to everyone who came. Oh, and congratulations to the Blues from a very Maroon school!
