The college farewelled the Class of 2024 with a heartfelt graduation liturgy and ceremony, followed by a gathering for supper with students, families, friends, and teachers this week.

Graduands processed into the Edmund Rice Hall to the sound of the college choir, followed by a liturgy led by Fr Michael Tran, who blessed both the graduates and Principal Rebgetz as they each complete their final year at the school.

Each graduand was called to the stage to celebrate their achievements and mark the end of their high school journey.

In her address, Principal Rebgetz talked about the Edmund Rice Touchstones.

“As graduates of St James College, we hope you’ll carry the Edmund Rice Touchstones in your heart and remember the importance of inclusion, empathy, justice, solidarity, compassion, and liberation,” Ms Rebgetz said.

“You have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to change the world in some way.

“Never stop defining your vision of what life could be. Create a picture of every aspect of your dream life – visualise it, feel it, and dream it,” she added.

A moving vocal performance of For Good featured the lyrics, 'But I know I'm who I am today, because I knew you, I have been changed for good,' captured the impact of connections students have formed over the years.

As part of a farewell ritual, the community gifted Principal Rebgetz a collection of meaningful cultural items, recognising her years guiding this cohort and their teachers through high school.

Past student and 2021 Vice-Captain Mary Chol addressed the gathering, sharing how Principal Rebgetz’s support inspired her to aim higher and to always be her best.

Principal Rebgetz’s final message to the graduating class was to, “Stay connected with friends and the College and remember that Jimmies Spirit and blessings will always be with you.”
