Jimmies Racing Team Awarded 2nd Place in Formula Student Event
Jimmies Racing Team place second from over 30 teams in a six-hour endurance event at Lakeside Raceway
A team of 19 St James College students headed out to Lakeside Park Qld recently with two racecars built by them in the Certificate II Engineering Pathways program.
Competing with over 30 teams, they placed 2nd overall in the endurance range team event where every lap was counted in a tight time frame.
Head of Faculty - VET & Trade Skills Anthony Hill said students had worked hard to hone their skills to achieve this result, “Students were efficient in the pits, they got in and out of cars quickly, they planned the fuel stops well and they got out of the pits faster.”
“Lakeside officials ran the event in a similar way to the Bathurst 1000, so students were able to experience industry standard motorcar racing.
“They had raceway earphones and were called in and black flagged if they broke the rules and served penalties in the pits,” he said.
Delivered in partnership with Formula High School: Formula Student RTO Code 41124, the program is all about exciting the future workforce, teaching work ready skills, providing real industry experiences, and giving students a head start on their careers.
