Four St James College teams of students and staff have again tackled the Kokoda Challenge at the Gold Coast hinterland. The trail saw the teams traverse the rugged 48km through the rocky, cold and muddy terrain for up to 17 hours and into the night.

In preparation for the teamwork event, the impressive group walked over 2,000km and spent over 400 hours in training.

St James College Kokoda Challenge Coordinator Sarah Mouritz said she was proud to finish the event, and proud to represent St James College on the journey. Further she shared her admiration of the students who participated.

“I was incredibly impressed and proud of the resilience and determination of the students to just keep going, even when they wanted to give up,” Mouritz said.

“This not only tested their physical endurance but also showcased their remarkable teamwork,” she added.

Furthermore, in conjunction with college partner TechnologyOne, over $3000 was raised for the Kokoda Youth Foundation. The funds will go towards supporting local youth programs aimed at transforming the lives of children.

Principal Ann Rebgetz praised the efforts of the team and crew and acknowledged TechnologyOne for their support.

“We congratulate all involved and thank TechnologyOne as sponsors, and the supporter groups who ensured that the troupe had all the liquids, food, encouragement to keep going!”

“The participant ‘heroes’ raised considerable funds to help the Kokoda Youth Foundation,” Principal Rebgetz added.

Students and staff are now looking forward to their 2025 Kokoda adventure.
